150-Hour International TESOL Certificate
Course Structure

This 150-hour TESOL certificate consists of 120-hours of course work plus 30-hours of teaching practicum. With support and coaching from your experienced TESOL instructor, this course will prepare you for teaching English to Students of Other Languages (TESOL) as soon as you complete this course even if you’ve never taught before!
The 150-hour course is divided across the following four core areas:

1. Coaching sessions and assessments (20 hours)
Each unit begins with a 2-hour coaching session with your TESOL instructor, which can be conducted in-person or virtually. Each session includes a review of the previous unit, assignment / assessment feedback, and exploration of the foundational material for the current unit. Each 2-hour coaching session provides you with key insights to prepare you and to guide your learning for the week ahead. Coaching sessions will also include an assessment of the previous unit content.

2. Self-Guided Study and Practice (70 hours)
Following the coaching session for each unit you will have guided independent research and study to complete which will prepare you to complete the unit assignments. The independent study workload is designed to take 7 hours per unit. It is important to note that during the week, your TESOL instructor will be available for you via email or messaging as a resource to help you with your weekly assignments. You are not alone for this part of the course.

3. Unit Assignments (30 hours)
After completing your self-guided study, you will submit your unit assignments as directed by your instructor. Some units will have 1 assignment, others will have 2 assignments.
-
Initial assignment completion: 2 hours per unit
-
Refining with feedback: 1 hour per unit

4. Teaching Practicum (30 hours)

Your 30-hours of teaching observation and practice will be spread out throughout the course. It consists of three experiences:

-
Observation - 6-hours (including reflection time) - Watch a trained TESOL teacher in action and take detailed notes. This will be done during units 2, 3, 4 and 5
-
Co-teaching - 9-hours (including preparation and reflection time) - Lead part of a lesson alongside an experienced teacher. This will be done during units 6, 7, 8 and 9
-
Teaching - 15-hours (including preparation and reflection time) - Delivering full lessons, observed by your TESOL instructor. This will be done after you complete unit 10
-

*** You can only proceed to the next unit once your instructor confirms that your work meets the required standards and demonstrates a clear understanding of the material, that you have submitted the assignment and passed the assessment.
